Who Should Attend

This custom ANI offering combines key concepts included in both the Introductory and Advanced cable courses offered by Cisco Systems. The course is designed for those Cisco Systems Engineers, Cisco Channels Partners, Integrators and Customers, with less than 18 months cable working experience, who are responsible for implementation and verification of DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 multimedia services being deployed on Cisco Systems' Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms.

Course Overview

ICCR_Plus is a five-day instructor-led course that reviews basic Radio Frequency knowledge and enforces Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) v1.1 and v2.0 concepts and core protocol functionality. Students will become familiar with Cisco's uBR7246VXR, uBR7225 and uBR10012 CMTS products including overviews, hardware and software component functions, system installation and configuration. This course focuses on understanding design considerations, traffic flow characteristics, and the use of key configuration parameters available in the Cisco IOS software designed for CMTS products. The course also demonstrates hardware and Cisco IOS features that add resiliency and security to the cable network, using hands-on lab exercises to reinforce your knowledge.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Discuss CATV topology, cable terminology, and technology
  • Discuss DOCSIS specifications and describe basic protocol operation
  • Identify the Cisco CMTS and CM products, their features and options
  • Install, configure, test, and operate a basic high-speed data access facility using Cisco CMTS and CM
  • Configure and verify operation of high-availability (redundancy) options used by Cisco CMTS platforms
  • Identify and use IOS tools that establish and enforce a security policy
  • Discuss the need and methods for establishing policy to control special traffic types within a cable network
  • Compare and contrast the resource allocation and call flow within PacketCable 1.x DQoS and PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM) deployments
  • Use the Cisco IOS to adjust key parameters that effect functionality and performance in a cable environment

Prerequisites

A solid understanding of Radio Frequency basics, significant experience with HFC plant operation and experience using Cisco IOS commands. A basic knowledge of DOCSIS principles and operation, security practices and terminology, as well as fundamental IP telephony concepts is recommended.
