Course Overview

This training session is a four-day instructor-led technical course that provides an in-depth understanding of the functional components of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network. This course focuses on key system components, including terminology, features and protocol functionality. You will gain experience planning, deploying and managing enterprise WLANs and advanced mobility services. Product focused exercises include usage of Cisco Aironet lightweight access points and WLAN controllers, CLI and Switch Web tools to perform configuration management, template utilization and creation of heat maps. Additional exercises focus on Open and Web Authentication, end-to-end 802.1x PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPv2 configurations including client, switch and AAA server implementations. You will become familiar with WLAN maintenance, unique Cisco WLAN product features, detailed troubleshooting methodologies and debugging tools using hands-on lab exercises to reinforce your knowledge.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Describe the components, features, and functionality of the Cisco WLAN solution.
  • Demonstrate how to propose and size the Cisco WLAN solution given a typical customer deployment scenario.
  • Install and configure the Cisco WLAN products.
  • Manage Wireless Networks using the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP).
  • Describe standard maintenance procedures, troubleshooting methodologies and debugging tools.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for Cisco Customers and Partners with a strong data networking background who will be responsible for the planning, implementing and/or supporting an enterprise WLAN.

Prerequisites

To realize the full benefit from this course, the student should have a working knowledge of the following concepts and technologies:

  • Microsoft Windows XP operating system

  • Authentication, Authorization, & Accounting (AAA) Concepts
    • Remote Access Dial-up Service (RADIUS)
    • Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
  • Data networking concepts

  • Data networking protocols
    • Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
    • Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
    • Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCPIP)
    • 802.1Q protocol

  • Wireless networking concepts

Cisco Aironet Wireless LAN Fundamentals and Site Survey v5.0 is also recommended
